Shéhérazade
Album by Maurice Ravel & Maria Ewing & City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra & Simon Rattle
Shéhérazade is a song cycle by French composer Maurice Ravel, composed in 1903 and first performed in 1904. Scored for voice with piano accompaniment and later orchestrated, its music employs late-Romantic harmonies, exotic modal colours and delicate orchestration, and it served as an early vocal-orchestral work that contributed to Ravel's emergence in French musical life at the turn of the century.
