Cello Sonatas
Album by César Franck & Claude Debussy & Martha Argerich & Mischa Maisky
The Cello Sonata in A major is a sonata for cello and piano by Belgian composer César Franck, composed in 1886 and first published in 1887. The work exemplifies late-Romantic chamber music, characterised by cyclic thematic relations, rich chromatic harmonies and long-breathed, lyrical writing for both instruments, and it holds a central place in Franck's mature output and the cello repertoire.
