Serse is an opera by George Frideric Handel, first performed in 1738. Blending elements of Baroque opera seria with moments of lyrical intimacy and expressive ornamentation, it presents a lighter, more flexible approach to drama and vocal writing that occupies a transitional place in Handel's stage works and in the development of 18th-century opera.
