Mefistofele is an opera by Italian composer Arrigo Boito, first performed in 1868. Musically it blends late-Romantic orchestration with expansive choral and solo vocal writing, employing chromatic harmony and orchestral colour that reflect late 19th-century Italian trends, and it was Boito's principal operatic work in his career.
