The Nutcracker is a two-act ballet by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, first performed in 1892. The score exemplifies Tchaikovsky's late-Romantic orchestral style through colourful orchestration and varied dance forms, and it followed his earlier ballets as part of his continuing development in the ballet repertoire.
