The Planets
Album by Gustav Holst & Chicago Symphony Orchestra & James Levine
The Planets is a seven-movement orchestral suite by the English composer Gustav Holst, composed between 1914 and 1916 and first performed in 1918. The work uses expansive orchestration, novel harmonic colours and rhythmic innovation to portray distinct character pieces across its movements, and it represents a pivotal work in Holst's output and in early 20th-century British orchestral music.
