Samson

Album by George Frideric Handel & Arnold Schoenberg Chor & Concentus Musicus Wien & Nikolaus Harnoncourt

Samson is an oratorio by George Frideric Handel, first performed in 1743. Composed in Handel's mature Baroque period, it features large-scale choral writing, expressive arias and recitatives and varied orchestral colour, reflecting his shift from Italian opera to the English oratorio tradition and his interest in dramatic sacred narrative.
