Symphony no. 1
Album by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies & BBC Philharmonic & Sir Peter Maxwell Davies
Symphony No. 1 is the first symphony by English composer Peter Maxwell Davies, composed in 1976. The work uses a modernist orchestral language characterised by sparse textures, dissonant harmonies and idiosyncratic timbral effects, and it marks Davies' move into large-scale symphonic writing that informed his subsequent orchestral output.
