String Quartets op. 51 nos. 1 & 2

Album by Johannes Brahms & Janáček Quartet

String Quartets Op. 51 Nos. 1 & 2 are two string quartets by Johannes Brahms, composed and published in 1873. Musically they sit within the Romantic chamber-music tradition, using classical four-movement structures enriched by dense counterpoint, expressive harmonic language and tightly developed themes, and they mark Brahms's establishment as a mature voice in the chamber repertoire following his earlier orchestral and piano works.
