The Creation is an oratorio by Austrian composer Joseph Haydn, completed and first performed in 1798. Scored for soloists, chorus and orchestra, it employs Classical-era orchestration, vivid choral writing and extensive word-painting to portray the creation narrative, and stands as a major large-scale vocal work from Haydn's mature period with notable influence on subsequent choral and symphonic repertoire.
