Swan Lake is a ballet by Пётр Ильич Чайковский, completed in 1876 and first performed in 1877. The score exemplifies late Romantic orchestration with sweeping melodies, leitmotifs and dance forms across its acts, and it occupies a defining place in Tchaikovsky's career and the development of narrative ballet in the late 19th century.
