Album by George Frideric Handel & Concentus Musicus Wien & Nikolaus Harnoncourt
Messiah is an English-language oratorio by George Frideric Handel, composed in 1741 and first performed in Dublin in 1742. The work employs Baroque choral, solo and orchestral forces with contrapuntal choruses, recitatives and arias, and represents one of Handel's late compositions, illustrating his mature approach to large-scale sacred drama and contributing to the development of the choral oratorio.
