The Planets

Album by Gustav Holst & Simon Rattle & Berliner Philharmoniker

The Planets is a seven-movement orchestral suite by English composer Gustav Holst, composed between 1914 and 1916 and first performed in 1918. The music employs large orchestral forces and vivid orchestration to portray distinct astrological characters, using bold harmonies, varied rhythms and expansive textures that influenced subsequent 20th-century orchestral writing.
