Symphony no. 2
Album by Jean Sibelius & Philharmonia Orchestra & Vladimir Ashkenazy
Symphony No. 2 is the second symphony by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, completed and premiered in 1902. Rooted in the late-Romantic orchestral tradition, it features expansive thematic material, vivid orchestration and a largely tonal, organically developed structure that consolidated Sibelius's mature voice and made the work a prominent element of his output and of early 20th-century symphonic repertoire.
