L'Orfeo
Album by Claudio Monteverdi & Apollo’s Fire & Jeannette Sorrell
L'Orfeo is an opera by Claudio Monteverdi, first performed in 1607. An early Baroque work, it blends expressive recitative and madrigalian techniques with varied instrumental colours and ritornelli to create dramatic vocal writing, and it represents Monteverdi's shift from composing madrigals to developing staged opera within music history.
