Symphony no. 1
Album by Edward Elgar & Royal Philharmonic Orchestra & André Previn
Symphony No. 1 in A-flat major is the first symphony by English composer Edward Elgar, completed and premiered in 1908. The work is a large-scale late-Romantic orchestral symphony characterised by expansive, often brooding melodies, rich orchestration and marked contrasts of mood, and it marks a significant point in Elgar's career and in the establishment of an English symphonic tradition in the early 20th century.
