String Quartets nos. 10, 12, 14

Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & St. Petersburg String Quartet

String Quartets Nos. 10, 12 and 14 are chamber works by Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1964, 1968 and 1973 respectively. They exemplify his late-period string quartet writing, combining terse, sometimes biting motifs with lyrical passages, frequent use of dissonance and concentrated forms, and occupy a central place in his late-career exploration of personal and modernist expression within the quartet medium.
First released: April 2003
