Ruddigore

Album by W.S. Gilbert & Arthur Sullivan & New Sadler’s Wells Opera

Ruddigore is a comic opera by W. S. Gilbert, first premiered in 1887. Stylistically it sits within the late-Victorian English operetta tradition, combining rapid-fire patter, ensemble choruses and orchestral accompaniment to satirise melodramatic and gothic tropes, and it represents a continuation of Gilbert's stage work that helped shape English comic opera.
