Symphony no. 7
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & London Philharmonic Orchestra & Bernard Haitink
Symphony No. 7 is the seventh symphony by Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1941 and first performed in 1942. A large-scale, four-movement orchestral work characterised by expansive orchestration, long-form thematic development and stark contrasts between lyrical and martial material, it was written during the Second World War and is part of his wartime output that is frequently discussed in accounts of 20th-century symphonic responses to the conflict.
