The Carmelites

Album by Francis Poulenc & Ashley Holland & Catrin Wyn Davies & Peter Wedd & Gary Coward & Felicity Palmer & Josephine Barstow & English National Opera Orchestra & Paul Daniel

Dialogues des Carmélites is an opera by French composer Francis Poulenc, premiered in 1957. Blending neoclassical clarity with lyrical vocal writing and austere choral passages, the work combines intimate, chamber-like scenes with larger liturgical textures and represents a major part of Poulenc's late output and of post-war French opera.
