Peter Grimes is a 1945 opera by English composer Benjamin Britten. The score blends lyrical vocal writing with vivid orchestral colour, modal and dissonant harmonies and maritime-inspired motifs within a mid-20th-century English modernist idiom, and it was a key early work that helped define Britten's contribution to post-war British opera.
