Symphony No. 4
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & London Philharmonic Orchestra & Bernard Haitink
Symphony No. 4 is the fourth symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1935–36. Musically it is an expansive orchestral work that combines late-Romantic orchestration, dense and often dissonant textures, sharp contrasts and large-scale formal ambition, and it occupies a pivotal position in Shostakovich's output as a transitional work between his early modernist experiments and his later more publicly oriented symphonies.
