Symphony no. 4
Album by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky & Berliner Philharmoniker & Herbert von Karajan
Symphony No. 4 is the fourth symphony by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, completed in 1877 and first performed in 1878. The work exemplifies Tchaikovsky's Romantic orchestral style with sweeping melodies, bold brass and timpani passages and richly textured string writing, and it occupies a central place in his symphonic output as an early mature statement composed during a turbulent period in his life.
