Messiah is an oratorio by George Frideric Handel, first performed in Dublin in 1742. Composed in 1741 during Handel's shift from Italian opera to English oratorio, it is written in three parts and scored for chorus, soloists and orchestra, employing Baroque vocal writing and contrapuntal techniques to set biblical texts in a devotional narrative.
