The Rake’s Progress
Album by Igor Fyodorovitch Stravinsky & Sir John Eliot Gardiner & Bryn Terfel & Ian Bostridge & Deborah York & Anne Sofie von Otter & Monteverdi Choir & London Symphony Orchestra
The Rake's Progress is an opera by Igor Stravinsky, first performed in 1951. Written in a neoclassical idiom, it employs clear tonal structures, contrapuntal textures and elements of satirical pastiche that echo eighteenth-century forms, representing a mid-career return to more traditional harmonies in Stravinsky's output and influencing subsequent twentieth-century opera.
