Symphony No. 5 is the fifth symphony by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, composed in 1888. The work is a late Romantic orchestral piece that uses recurring motifs, rich harmonic language, expansive orchestration and contrasted dynamics to move between sombre passages and more forceful climaxes, and it appears in Tchaikovsky's late career as part of his mature symphonic output.
