Symphony #10
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Dresdner Philharmonie & Michael Sanderling
Symphony No. 10 is the tenth symphony by Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich, completed and first performed in 1953. The four-movement orchestral work combines terse, often intense textures, sharp contrasts and recurring motifs within a broadly neoclassical symphonic framework, and occupies an important place in Shostakovich's output as his first large-scale work following Stalin's death, reflecting the political and emotional tensions of its time.
