Symphony no. 4

Album by Gustav Mahler & The Cleveland Orchestra & George Szell & Judith Raskin

Symphony No. 4 is the fourth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1901. Scored for a relatively smaller orchestra and culminating in a final movement for soprano that sets a child's vision of heaven, the work combines classical forms with late-Romantic harmony and transparent orchestral textures, occupying a transitional place between Mahler's earlier, folk-infused symphonies and his later expansive masterpieces.
First released: 1982
