Symphony no. 6 “Tragic”
Album by Gustav Mahler & London Symphony Orchestra & Harold Farberman
Symphony No. 6 "Tragic" is the sixth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, composed in 1903–1904 and premiered in 1906. The work, cast in a late-Romantic orchestral idiom, features expansive structures, intense dynamic contrasts and stark rhythmic motifs including two hammer-like blows, conveying a darker, more fatalistic character that marks a pivotal point between Mahler's earlier song-influenced symphonies and his later, more massive works.
