La Mer / Nocturnes
Album by Claude Debussy & Orchestre de Paris & Sir John Barbirolli
La Mer and Nocturnes are orchestral works by Claude Debussy, composed in 1905 and 1899 respectively. Both pieces exemplify Debussy's impressionist orchestral language, characterised by fluid textures, delicate orchestral colour and harmonic ambiguity, and they occupy a central place in his career as key works of his mature style that influenced the direction of French orchestral music around the turn of the 20th century.
