The Planets
Album by Gustav Holst & Berliner Philharmoniker & Herbert von Karajan
The Planets is an orchestral suite by English composer Gustav Holst, composed between 1914 and 1916 and first performed in 1918. Scored for a large orchestra across seven movements, it employs vivid orchestration, distinctive rhythmic and harmonic language and programme-like characterisation to depict astrological ideas, and it is central to Holst's output and the early 20th-century orchestral repertoire.
