Intimate Letters
Album by Leoš Janáček & Bohuslav Martinů & Emerson String Quartet
Intimate Letters is the second string quartet by Czech composer Leoš Janáček, composed in 1928. The work features terse, speech-like motifs, abrupt contrasts and folk-inflected melodic fragments that exemplify Janáček's late-period, intensely personal chamber writing and represents a key moment in his development of a distinctive, speech-derived musical language.
