Piano Trios, op. 8 & op. 101
Album by Johannes Brahms & Julius Katchen & Josef Suk & János Starker
Piano Trios, Op. 8 & Op. 101 is a collection of chamber works by Johannes Brahms, composed in 1854 (Op. 8, later extensively revised in 1889) and 1886 (Op. 101). The pieces contrast Brahms's youthful, expansive Romantic lyricism with his later, more concise and autumnal style, featuring dense contrapuntal textures, warm harmonic richness and rigorous motivic development that illustrate key stages in his compositional development.
