Verdi: Otello

Album by Giuseppe Verdi & Sir Mark Elder & English National Opera Orchestra & Bonaventura Bottone & Rosalind Plowright & Neil Howlett & Shelagh Squires & Charles Craig

Otello is an opera by Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi, premiered in 1887. The work exemplifies Verdi's late-Romantic dramatic style, featuring dense, colourful orchestration and continuous musical-dramatic writing that places heavy vocal demands on the principal roles and marks a move in his late career towards greater through-composed cohesion and heightened theatrical intensity.
