String Quartets
Album by Joseph Haydn & Leif Solberg & Edvard Grieg & Engegårdkvartetten
String Quartets is a collection of chamber works by Austrian composer Joseph Haydn, composed between 1760 and 1805. These pieces exemplify the classical string quartet genre, characterised by conversational interplay among the four instruments, clear formal structures, motivic development and a balance of contrapuntal and lyrical textures, and they mark a central phase in Haydn's career in which he codified the form that would influence later composers.
