Mahler 5
Album by Gustav Mahler & The Cleveland Orchestra & Christoph von Dohnányi
Symphony No. 5 is the fifth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, composed between 1901 and 1902. A late-Romantic orchestral work in several contrasting movements, it features bold brass fanfares, intricate rhythmic momentum and an extended slow movement for strings and harp, and it represents a move in Mahler's output from song-influenced and programme elements toward purely instrumental symphonic writing.
