Pastorale is the sixth symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed and premiered in 1808. The work is an example of programme music that evokes rural scenes through lyrical woodwind writing, bucolic rhythms and expansive orchestral textures, and it occupies a central place in Beethoven's middle period as he expanded his orchestral palette and formal structures.
