Symphony no. 1

Album by Alfred Garyevich Schnittke & State Symphony Orchestra of the Ministry of Culture of the USSR & Gennadi Nikolayevich Rozhdestvensky

Symphony No. 1 is the first symphony by Russian composer Alfred Schnittke, composed in 1969. The work introduces Schnittke's polystylistic approach, juxtaposing pastiche and quotation with abrupt shifts between tonal and dissonant orchestral textures, and represents an early milestone in his development and in late Soviet-era orchestral music.
