Boléro is a one-movement orchestral composition by French composer Maurice Ravel, composed in 1928. The work is built on a repeating rhythmic ostinato and a recurring melody that are progressively varied through changes in orchestration, dynamics and instrumental colour, producing a prolonged crescendo that occupies a distinctive place in Ravel's output and in 20th-century orchestral repertoire.
