String Quartets 3, 7 & 8
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & St. Lawrence String Quartet
String Quartets 3, 7 & 8 is a collection of chamber works by Dmitri Shostakovich, composed between 1946 and 1960. The music uses classical quartet textures alongside increased dissonance, terse motifs and abrupt contrasts, and the pieces fall in Shostakovich's mid to late creative period when he turned increasingly to the string quartet as a medium for concentrated expression.
