Symphony no. 4

Symphony No. 4 is the fourth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1900 and premiered in 1901. Scored for a comparatively modest orchestra and concluding with a soprano solo that portrays a child's vision of heaven, the work features lucid textures, folk-inflected melodies and moments of both lyricism and irony that mark a move toward greater transparency and classical restraint within Mahler's symphonic trajectory.
