The Canticles

Album by Benjamin Britten & Ian Bostridge & David Daniels & Christopher Maltman & Julius Drake & Aline Brewer & Timothy Brown

The Canticles is a cycle of five vocal works by English composer Benjamin Britten, composed between 1947 and 1974. They are intimate, chamber-scale settings for various solo voices and small ensembles that blend sacred and secular texts and occupy a distinctive place in Britten's vocal repertoire for their concentrated dramatic and tonal contrasts.
