Symphony No. 6

Album by Gustav Mahler & London Philharmonic Orchestra & Klaus Tennstedt

Symphony No. 6 is the sixth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, composed in 1903–1904 and first performed in 1906. A late-Romantic orchestral work, it is characterised by expansive structures, vivid orchestration, stark dynamic contrasts and a tense, often tragic atmosphere, and it represents a mature, darker phase in Mahler's output that influenced the trajectory of early 20th-century symphonic writing.
