Kullervo
Album by Jean Sibelius & Esa‐Pekka Salonen & Los Angeles Philharmonic
Kullervo is a choral symphony by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, completed and first performed in 1892. Scored for orchestra, male choir and vocal soloists and drawing on Kalevala-inspired material, it combines late-Romantic orchestration with folk-inflected melodic and rhythmic elements and represents an early, ambitious statement that helped establish Sibelius's national Romantic voice.
