Symphony No. 1 is the first symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1888. Blending late-Romantic orchestration with folk-influenced motifs, dramatic contrasts and an expansive multi-movement structure, it marks Mahler's emergence as a symphonist and foreshadows the scale and thematic ambition of his later symphonies.
