String Quartets Nos. 8 & 2

Album by Ludwig van Beethoven & Juilliard String Quartet

String Quartets Nos. 8 and 2 are two string quartets by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed in 1806 and circa 1800 respectively. The earlier piece reflects Beethoven's early Classical manner with balanced forms and lyrical material, while the later quartet from his middle period enlarges the quartet idiom through expanded structures, bolder harmonies, heightened contrasts and increased technical demands that anticipate his later developments in chamber music.
