Aleko is a one-act opera by Sergei Rachmaninoff, composed in 1892 and first performed in 1893. Rooted in the late-Romantic Russian operatic tradition, it features lush orchestration, dramatic vocal writing and folk-influenced melodies, and stands as Rachmaninoff's earliest completed stage work that demonstrates his developing orchestral voice and lyrical gift.
