String Sextets

Album by Johannes Brahms & Belcea Quartet & Tabea Zimmermann & Jean‐Guihen Queyras

String Sextets is a set of two chamber works by German composer Johannes Brahms, composed between 1860 and 1864. Scored for two violins, two violas and two cellos, they use Romantic-era harmony, rich textural writing and contrapuntal techniques, and illustrate Brahms's consolidation of his chamber-music craft in his early to mid-career.
