Symphony No. 5 is a symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven, completed and first performed in 1808. The music is rooted in the classical symphonic tradition but features a short recurring motif, strong rhythmic drive, expansive dynamic contrasts and a progression from minor to major across the work, and it was composed during Beethoven's middle period when he enlarged the scale and orchestral palette of his symphonies.
