Semele is an English-language oratorio by George Frideric Handel, first performed in 1744. Blending Baroque orchestral writing with operatic vocal writing, it features dramatic arias, recitative and choral passages and occupies a transitional place in Handel's career as he moved from Italian opera towards English oratorio in the 1740s.
